Ashgar Afghan could not control his tears on retirement interview, check video- Former Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan has brought down curtains on his international career having announced that he will hang up his boots after the Namibia clash. The 33-year-old has enjoyed a stellar career for Afghanistan and was instrumental in their rise from the lower rungs of divisional cricket. Playing his final game, Afghan received a guard of honour from the Namibian players as he walked out to bat for the final time in his 16-year career. AFG vs NAM LIVE: Asghar Afghan receives guard of honour from Namibia, teammates in final international game 

Former Afghanistan skipper Asghar Afghan is playing his last match for his country as he has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Saturday. the 33-year-old came into bat when Mohammad Shahzad’s entertaining knock of 45 came to an end in the 13th over. As Asghar came into bat, the Namibian side gave the former Afghanistan skipper a guard of honour during the match.

Asghar Afghan made a telling contribution in the game against Namibia on Sunday, scoring a vital 31 as Afghanistan put on a competitive total batting first. Ruben Trumpelmann, who dismissed the veteran in his final innings, stopped midway through his celebrations to pat Afghan on the back before the rest of the players shook his hands as he walked off for the final time from the field.

Asghar Afghan in tears: As Asghar Afghan walked back, the Afghanistan players held their bats up as the 33-year-old walked back to the pavilion. Speaking after the first innings, Asghar Afghan explained his decision to retire, suggesting that Afghanistan cricket was in a good place and he wanted to give an opportunity to the youngsters to play for the team. The former captain broke down while addressing the questions as he bid an emotional farewell to the game. The 33-year-old did not take the field when the second innings resumed and was seen in tears while being seated in the dugout.

Afghan said, “I want to give chance to youngsters. I think this is a good opportunity for that. Most people are asking me why now but it’s something I cannot explain.  In the last match, we were hurt too much, and that’s why I decided to retire. There are plenty of memories, it’s difficult for me, but I have to retire.”

Asghar Afghan retires: Asghar Afghan has played six Tests, 114 ODIs and 75 T20Is for Afghanistan. The right-handed batter made his debut against Scotland in 2009. Asghar Afghan played his first match in the longest format when Afghanistan locked horns with India in June 2018. He led Afghanistan in 59 of his 114 ODIs, and 52 of his 74 T20Is. In fact, Afghan holds the record for the most wins as captain in T20Is, with Afghanistan winning 42 games under his leadership, one more than what legendary captain MS Dhoni managed with India.
