Chasing 143 runs target, South Africa had a shaky start as Dushmantha Chameera dismissed both openers Q de Kock and Reeza Hendricks in the fourth over. Van der Dussen and skipper Temba Bavuma then took the innings further before a direct hit at non-striker’s end sent back van der Dussen in the shed.

Aiden Markram and Skipper Temba Bavuma then tried building up a handy partnership but Wanindu Hasaranga picked up a hat-trick in his final over & left the match wide open bringing the equation down 25 off 12 deliveries.

However, a 15-ball 34 runs partnership between David Miller and Kagiso Rabada guided the Proteas home on the last ball with 4 wickets in hand. Miller slammed two sixes in the last over while Rabada hit the winning runs with a Four on the last ball of the innings.

Earlier, Put into bat, Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 142 on the back of superb innings from opener Pathum Nissanka. Nissanka slammed 72 off 58 and singlehandedly took the Islanders to a good total. Apart from Nissanka, only Asalanka (21 off 14) and skipper Shanaka (11 off 12) managed to score in double digits.
