NAM beat SCO Highlights: Namibia’s dream run continues in T20 World Cup, beat Scotland to register 1st victory in Super-12

Namibia on Dream Run: Namibia kicked off their Super 12 campaign with a victory against Scotland by 4 wickets in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the Zayed Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Namibia faced certain difficulties but the team was able to chase the modest target of 110 with five balls to spare. With this win, Namibia went to 3rd spot in Group 2 behind Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Namibia on Dream Run: Chasing 110, Namibia prefered to go with caution over aggression as it wasn’t until the fifth over of the innings that Namibia scored their first boundary off the bat. Opener Michael van Lingen was removed in the last over of powerplay as their score read 29/1.

Zane Green and Craig Williams tried to up the ante but the former fell at the stroke of drinks. At the halfway stage, Namibia needed 54 from the remaining 10 to win the contest. Gerhard Erasmus stay at the pitch was cut short in the 12th over.

Namibia on Dream Run: Craig Williams soon followed Erasmus into the dressing room in the next over. With the team under the pressure, JJ Smit and David Wiese steadied the ship for the chasing team. Wiese was removed in the 18th over and Jan Frylinck in the penultimate over but until then it was just too late for Scotland. JJ Smit smashed six on the first ball of the last over as Namibia put their first points on board.

Earlier, Left-arm pacer Ruben Trumpelmann struck thrice in a sensational first over as debutants Namibia restricted Scotland to a below-par 109 for eight in a Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup here on Wednesday.

Namibia on Dream Run: The 23-year-old got the ball to shape back into the right-hander from the word go and the one that went away with the angle also troubled the Scotland top-order. George Munsey played on the first ball of the match before Trumpelmann had Calum Macleod caught behind off an angled delivery as the batter anticipated a lethal inswinger.

The next ball was the inswinger and Richard Berrington, who is leading Scotland in place of injured Kyle Coetzer, could do little about it. He reviewed the on-field umpire’s decision but DRS found the ball clipping the leg-stump.

Scotland were reeling at 18 for four after all-rounder David Wiese trapped Craig Wallace in front of the stumps with a ball that skidded on to the batter’s pads. With their opponents in dire straits, Namibia could have attacked more after the first six overs.

Leask got the much-needed boundaries to take the team closer to the 100-run mark before falling to JJ Smit in the 17th over. Considering their disastrous start, Scotland did well to get past 100. Nambia were also brilliant in the last five overs, conceding only 25 runs and taking three wickets.
