Even hosting the tournament in 2014 did not bring a change in fortunes. But this year, things are a bit different. Bangladesh is shining under a new leader, Mahmudullah. They have a balanced squad with a promising mixture of youth and experience, plus they are in excellent form.
T20 World Cup: Bangladesh have form at their back: Zimbabwe (2-1), Australia (4-1), and New Zealand (3-2) have all been beaten in the T20I series in recent months and veteran captain Mahmadullah will hope for more of the same when the action begins in Oman. Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, and Mutafizur Rahman bring in the right experience while Nasum Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Shamim Hossain possess the talent.
Even though Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh’s highest run-getter in the previous edition, has pulled out, Bangladesh has found their openers in Liton Das and Mohammad Naim. Soumya Sarkar is also there to take up the role if required. They have a daunting but doable task ahead.
