WWE Smackdown: King Nakamura relinquished his crown- King Shinsuke Nakamura relinquished his Crown ahead of tonight’s edition of Friday Night Smackdown. He also dropped “King” from his name saying that he respects the King of the Ring tournament and he has already proven his worth as the King.
This happened in the pre-Smackdown backstage segment where Rick Boogs introduced Nakamura for a royal decree on the crown where the Intercontinental Champion revealed that he is dropping “King” from his name and giving up his prestigious crown.

WWE Smackdown: Why Shinsuke Nakamura gave up the crown?
The King of the Ring tournament started this week on Friday Night Smackdown, and the new King will be crowned at the Crown Jewel event on October 21. Shinsuke said that he respects the King of the Ring tournament, and to keep its dignity intact, he decided to give up the crown and removed “King” from his name.
“A new King of the Ring being crowned in a few weeks. I respect the King of the Ring Tournament, and I have proven myself as The King. Because of that, I am giving up my crown. So you will not call me ‘King’ Nakamura, but you can call me the Intercontinental Champion!”

WWE Smackdown: When did Nakamura become “King Nakamura?”
Nakamura never entered the King of the Ring Tournament officially but won possession of the crown by defeating King Corbin (now Happy Corbin) in a winner takes the crown match on the June 18 edition of Friday Night Smackdown.

Since then, Nakamura held possession of the crown and proved himself why he is a better King than Happy Corbin. As far as the 2021 King of the Ring competition is concerned, the first-round matches took place on this week’s Smackdown. Sami Zayn defeated Rey Mysterio, and Finn Balor defeated Cesaro to advance to the tournament semifinals.
