Virat Kohli Resigns: Sunil Gavaskar feels that Virat Kohli will want to end his T20I captaincy on high by winning ICC T20 World Cup – Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has expressed that Virat Kohli will want to end his T20I captaincy on high by winning ICC T20 World Cup 2021 scheduled to take place in October. Gavaskar also said that there will be less pressure on Virat as it will be his last tournament as the captain of Indian in the shortest format of the game.

“Virat will want to retire from captaincy by winning the World Cup. There will be less pressure on Virat Kohli now going into the ICC T20 World Cup as he knows that it is his last captaincy stint for Team India in the shortest format of the game. This will benefit the Indian team going to the mega event,” told Aaj Tak on the live show. 

Kohli took the big decision to step down as T20I captain after T20 World Cup. He confirmed the development via tweet post. “I’ve decided to step down as the T20 captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October. I have spoken to head coach Ravi Shastri, BCCI secretary Jay Shah and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.”

Kohli’s Performance as India Captain across all formats

Test Matches – 65 / Won 38

ODI’s – 95 / Won 65

T20’s – 45 / Won 29

“Once the captain leaves the captaincy he gets the time to focus on batting or bowling whatever he is specialised in and if he fails to be consistent in it then he will be out of the team. So, no former captain thinks that I should not perform anymore as I am not the captain,” Gavaskar added.
