SL vs SA, 3rd ODI: Theekshana, Asalanka lead Sri Lanka to 78-run win against South Africa, seal series 2-1 – Charith Asalanka’s 47 and Maheesh Theekshana’s four wickets helped Sri Lanka beat South Africa by 78 runs and seal ODI series 2-1 at R Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday. The win also gave Sri Lanka crucial 20 points in the World Cup Super League to keep their chances alive for a direct qualfication.
Chasing a target of 204 runs, South Africa tumbled and lost wickets at regular intervals. Heinrich Klaasen led South Africa’s fightback for a while but it wasn’t enough as the visitors failed against Sri Lanka’s spin and folded for 125.
Earlier, Riding on incredible performances from spinners, South Africa restricted Sri Lanka to 203/9 in 50 overs in the third and final ODI of the series here at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Tuesday. Captain Keshav Maharaj, George Linde and Tabraiz Shamsi were the star performer of the South African side while for the host Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dushmantha Chameera scored runs to help their side reach past 200.
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. The pitch was expected to favour spinners, thus captain Maharaj started bowling in the second over of the innings. He along with Linde bowled beautifully. Maharaj removed three Sri Lankan batsmen while Linde and Shamsi took two wickets each. Aiden Markram and Wiaan Mulder also chipped in with one wicket each. South Africa used as many as four spinners while the three pacers completed the remaining 10 overs.

On the other hand for Sri Lanka, Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka build a small partnership after losing quick wickets at the top. de Silva scored 31 while Asalanka missed out on well deserved fifty as he got out on 47 runs. In the end, Dushmantha Chameera gave Sri Lanka the much-needed push to help their score past 200.
The pitch will continue to assist spinners and the chase will be an interesting one if Sri Lanka takes early wickets.

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and opeted to bat first in the series decider against South Africa here at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Tuesday. The series is level at 1-1. Sri Lanka has a chance of beating South Africa in ODI series after nine years. South Africa are unchanged while the hosts have made three changes. Rajapaksa, Dananjaya and Bhanuka are being replaced by Dinesh Chandimal, Maheesh Theekshana and Kamindu Mendis.
