SKN vs BAR CPL 2021: Sheldon Cottrell, Dominic Drakes seal last ball thriller, Patriots beat Royals to make it 5 in 5 Table-toppers St Kitts and Nevis Patriots continued their winning run in the ongoing CPL season as they clinched a thrilling last-ball win over the Barbados Royals on Friday. Needing four to win off the final delivery, Sheldon Cottrell smashed a mammoth six to seal a two-wicket victory despite the Patriots being behind in the game for long.
Put into bat, the Barbados Royals got off to a steady start with Johnson Charles holding fort after the early dismissal of Shai Hope. Smit Patel, making his CPL debut, walked and looked instantly at home as he shepherding the Royals innings. While wickets kept tumbling at the other end, Smit continued to get runs and eventually scored a half-century to guide Barbados to 160/8.
In response, the Patriots struggled themselves, with Devon Thomas and Chris Gayle failing to get a move on after sedate starts. Their middle-order collapsed quickly in search of quick runs, but Dominic Drakes kept them in the hunt with timely boundaries in the final overs. Sheldon Cottrell also chipped in, and hit the final ball for six to ensure the Patriots remained unbeaten with five wins from five games.
