IRE beat ZIM 3rd T20: Ireland thrashes Zimbabwe by 40 runs as Paul Stirling slams maiden T20I century, take 2-1 lead: The 179 run was never an easy total to chase down despite small boundaries and batting-friendly surface as Zimbabwe crumbled down under the pressure, eventually being bowled out for 138 runs in 18.2 overs. Chasing 179 runs, none of the Zimbabwe batters managed to get going as only skipper Craig Ervine (33 off 18) and Ryan Burl ( 26 off 23) managed to score past 20 runs.
Earlier, Ireland set a massive total of 178/2, courtesy of Paul Stirling’s maiden T20I hundred. The Irish opener was on a different level as he led Ireland single-handedly right from the beginning. Stirling slammed an unbeaten 115 off just 75 deliveries, including eight fours and eight sixes, at a strike rate of 153.33.
“Managed to get through the new ball having lost the toss. It was a big toss. It’s not something I overly think about (getting the hundred). I was thinking about getting a par score for the team. 150-160 would have been fine, but we were delighted to get another 20 runs in the bank. I should have probably hit that century ball for a six. The individual accolade is immaterial to me. To win these games after losing the toss shows a lot about our team. It was one of our worst powerplays in terms of run-rates and to come from there to win says a lot about us. Kevin O’Brien needs to be backed. He’s one of the best in the country. Can’t imagine anyone better than him for the World Cup,” Paul Stirling said post-match as quoted by Cricbuzz.
The fourth T20I will be played tomorrow – September 02, Thursday at the same venue. While the host Ireland will be eyeing to take an unassailable lead, Zimbabwe will be looking to bounce back and level the series.
