IPL 2021: KKR sign Tim Southee in place of Pat Cummins: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have roped in New Zealand pacer Tim Southee for the second leg of IPL 2021 in UAE. The reports of KKR’s new signing came from Cricbuzz after a franchise source confirmed the signing of the New Zealand pacer. Southee has come in as a replacement to Australian pacer Pat Cummins who is unavailable for the remaining matches of the tournament in the Gulf country.

Tim has been a strong player and has been the spearhead of the New Zealand team. In the UAE conditions, we hope he will be very effective,” a KKR official said as per Cricbuzz reports.

He will be a back up to Lockie Ferguson. With his new ball skills, he should be very effective in the UAE conditions,” the KKR official added.

With Southee joining the purple brigade, he will be the third New Zealander in the KKR squad.

IPL 2021: The 32-year old Kiwi pacer has featured in seven seasons of the IPL. His last stint in the cash-rich league was with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2019 where he returned with a poor economy of 13 in the three games he played. Unfortunately, in IPL 2020, Southee went unsold at a base price of one crore.

In his IPL journey, Southee has played for various franchises like- Chennai Super Kings (2011), Rajasthan Royals (2014, 2015), Mumbai Indians (2016, 2017) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (2018, 2019).

IPL 2021: In 40 IPL games, he has picked 28 wickets at an economy rate of 8.47.

IPL 2021: Kolkata Knight Riders schedule in second phase of tournament

Before the suspension, Kolkata were a lowly seventh as their struggles continued, winning just two of their seven games in Phase 1. Eoin Morgan and Co. will hope to turn their backs on those results when they land in UAE and return to winning ways and end their playoff drought.
