WI vs PAK 2nd Test – Pakiastn beat West Indies by 109 Runs: Babar Azam’s Pakistan team’s positive intent & Shaheen Afridi’s brilliant bowling for two consecutive days has given them series levelling win against the West Indies. Like on Day 4, once again Afridi was the star of the day on the final day. Afridi took 4/43 to achieve 10 Wicket haul in the match as the West Indies folded 219 against a well-rounded Pakistan attack.

With this win, Pakistan levelled the series 1-1 and take away the crucial World Test Championship points. It is worth noting that the West Indies hasn’t beaten Pakistan in a series since 2001.

Pakistan 302 for 9 dec (Alam 124, Azam 75, Roach 3-68) and 176 for 6 dec (Butt 37, Azam 33) beat West Indies 150 (Bonner 37, Afridi 6-51) and 219 (Holder 47, Afridi 4-43, Nauman 3-52) by 109 runs

WI vs PAK 2nd Test – Pakiastn beat West Indies by 109 Runs: Pakistan needed to take nine wickets on Day 5 of the Test match. Afridi put his best foot forward to take four of it while Nauman Ali picked three wickets with his left-arm spin and Hasan Ali claimed two wickets on the last day of the Test match.

For West Indies, Jason Holder was the highest scorer with his 47-run knock in 83 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes. West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite also scored 39 runs but his innings went in vain as Pakistan finished the game almost a session in hand. There was a bit of rain after the lunch but even that could not save West Indies from losing the game.

Match Summary

West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first, took three quick wickets in the first session to put Pakistan on back foot but the partnership between Fawad Alam and captain Babar Azam took the early advantage away from them. Fawad went on to score a record-breaking century and that changed the game on its head. Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales picked up three wickets each for the host.

The second day of the Test match was washed out and it looked like the match will head towards a draw. There were rain interruptions on Day 3 as well. Shaheen Afridi helped Pakistan bowl out West Indies on 150 runs in their first innings by picking up 6 wickets while Mohammad Abbas also took three crucial wickets. Nkrumah Bonner was the highest scorer for WI in the first innings with a score of 37.

Pakistan went all guns blazing in their second innings as they wanted to win the game and level the series. A draw would have meant that West Indies seal the series by 1-0. Pakistan, in order to force a win, declared on 176/6 which they made in just 28 overs. Imran Butt was the highest scorer for Pakistan in their second innings.

On the last day, Pakistan claimed nine wickets to level the series 1-1.

WI vs PAK 2nd Test – Pakiastn beat West Indies by 109 Runs:

Both team Captain After the match

Babar Azam: It was a very important game for us especially after losing the first Test. The way we played, right from my partnership with Fawad to taking the wickets on the final day, made me really proud. Afridi bowled really well in the first innings, then we scored quickly to put them in before stumps on day four. The plan was to go till 330-340 and then have a go at them. We had to level the series and hence had to take bold decisions. Nauman also played a crucial role and his two wickets were very important. We knew there would be some assistance for the spinners on day five and hence we played Nauman. He (Afridi) is a great talent for Pakistan and he’s improving day by day, I am very lucky to have him lead the attack.

Kraigg Brathwaite: This game totally let us down. We were behind the 8-ball from the beginning. Test cricket is not easy. First, 30 balls for a batter is always tough. We need to figure it out. I still think the series was positive. The team did a superb job in the first Test. Kudos to the bowlers. They did a fantastic job. This Test, the first innings let us down. We did make some strides. Seales is a star in the making. The sky is the limit for him. The length he produces is remarkable. He has a bright future ahead of him. They were very consistent as a bowling unit. Despite it being hot, they all hit the right straps. Fawad getting a 100 is something for us and our team to learn.

Shaheen Afridi after winning Player of the Match and Series: It is a great effort. The team needed this win and I am happy to deliver. It was tough; last day, the weather was hot and as a team, we know if get one wicket we will get the next one. We have 100 per cent as a team and that’s why we won the game. All credit goes to my brother Riaz Afridi, he is my brother and my father, also to my family. It was crucial for us to win this game and open our WTC account.
