IPL 2021: England players could miss playoffs due to clash with Pakistan tour

IPL 2021 Phase 2 – England Players in IPL: As reported by the Telegraph India, England players could miss the latter stages of the IPL with plans in motion to fulfil ECB’s commitment to the tour of Pakistan. England players were later to miss the IPL 2021 Phase, but following the postponement of their series against Bangladesh, Eoin Morgan and Co. were released to play in the cash-rich competition.

England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive Tom Harrison told Telegraph India that the focus was on playing the bilateral series against Pakistan, but there will be discussions with players that will finally decide their fate. Harrison hinted that players could be allowed to play for their IPL franchises during the latter stages and miss out on the tour of Pakistan, but a call on that schedule is yet to be made.

Harrison said, “With respect to the IPL, we are going to have discussions with all our players and with the postponement of the Bangladesh tour, it provides an opportunity for players to potentially present themselves for the IPL. Players are going to manage their schedule because we have a busy winter and that comes on the end of a busy summer. Those discussions are underway but obviously on a case-by-case basis, those decisions will be made with the players.”

He added, “We expect to go to Pakistan for our T20I series before the T20 World Cup. That will be the first time England will be in Pakistan since 2004. It is very important for us strategically because teams are starting to go back to Pakistan and we fully want to show our support towards a fellow member of the ICC.”
