Ind vs Eng, 2nd Test- Pitch Report: R Ashwin says, ‘We’ve had good preparation in case the wickets are damp’ India off-spinner R Ashwin, who did not feature in the first Test at Nottingham, has expressed that India is prepared for the Lord’s Test even if the pitch is damp. 

“Overall the way we batted and bowled was excellent in the first Test so the mood was excellent. Whenever you come to Lord’s it’s a pictures occasion. A very special place for me to come. And we are well prepared for the Test even if the wicket is damp. I am personally looking forward to a wonderful Test series where the Indian team can achieve something really great,” Ashwin said in a video Tweet posted by BCCI.

Ashwin also revealed that the Indian team were disappointed after Nottingham Test as they missed a chance to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Ashwin also said that the Indian team is looking forward to the Lord’s Test (Lord’s Cricket Stadium). 

What to expect from Lord’s pitch

The historical stadium of Lord’s has hosted 140 Tests out of which 37 were won by team who won the toss and opted to bat first while 26 times team batting first after winning the toss lost the game. When the captain has opted to bowl first, the team has won 13 and lost 13. Overall 51Tests have resulted in a draw.

The love affair between pace bowling and Lord’s pitch is well known among cricket fans. The average runs per dismissal at this venue is 27.80 which is also the lowest average per venue compared to rest of the four venues. The average first innings score is 332.

Spinners have got pretty average returns at Lord’s. They average 38.71 and it takes them nearly 73 balls to take a wicket.

“I think it was quite disappointing, to be honest. As I thought, everybody inside the dressing room knew that how well KL Rahul batted the previous night and Rohit also batted well. In the first innings, our lower order also stuck together. So obviously it was kind of disappointed that we could not go 1-0 up in the series at the Trend Bridge. Overall we batted well and we bowled well so the mood in the camp was excellent. We are looking forward to the second Test and what better venue than The Lord’s,” R Ashwin said on BCCI.TV.

The first Test of the 5-match Test series between Indian and England concluded in a draw as the play on the final day of the contest was abandoned due to continuous rain. “What is surprising is whenever I play at this venue in a county tournament. We talk that it’s gonna rain today but we end up playing for 6 hours every time. It’s quite a shame that we could not complete the first Test.” 

The next match will take place at the mecca of cricket i.e Lord’s Cricket Ground. India have two wins at Lord’s one came under MS Dhoni while the other came under the leadership of Ajit Wadekar, Virat Kohli will look to add his name to the list and take a 1-0 lead in the Test series.

“Playing at Lord’s Cricket Stadium is a special feeling. In 2011 I was not fortunate enough but in 2014, Ajinkya Rahane scored a brilliant century and our bowlers bowled well to achieve victory,” Ashwin said while talking about playing Test at Lord’s Cricket Stadium.
