India vs England playing XI: Injury scare for both teams, Shardul Thakur, Stuart Broad suffer injuries ahead of Lord’s Test

India vs England playing XI – Stuart Broad Injured: As per UK media reports, the 35-year-old is not able to place any weight on his right leg after the incident.

He might have undergone a calf strain or Achilles tendon problem that could even rule him out of the ongoing five-match series. Broad was supposed to play his 150th Test at the Mecca of Cricket, but now his place in XI is in jeopardy. The pacer had taken a lone wicket against India in the opening Test. Stuart Broad’s injury could open a place for Mark Wood to enter the playing XI and join the likes of James Anderson, Sam Curran and Ollie Robinson.

India vs England playing XI – Shardul Thakur Injured: Meanwhile, India allrounder Shardul Thakur is also struggling with a hamstring problem, reported The Guardian. If the reports are true, Ishant Sharma could enter the playing XI as Virat Kohli has confirmed that they will continue to play 4 seamers throughout the series.

For England, Haseeb Hameed and Moeen Ali are in line to enter the playing XI against India. While Haseeb Hameed could replace Zak Crawley who averages just over 11 in tests, Dan Lawrence/ Dominic Sibley could miss the spot for Moeen Ali who could bat in the top 3.

Joe Root on Moeen Ali

“I’ve always been a huge fan of him. He’s a wonderful cricketer across the formats. He has the ability to go out there and win games with bat and ball. He’s proven in the past,” Root said.

“He plays best cricket when he’s enjoying it and he’s full of confidence. I’m quite happy to give him a huge amount of responsibility if he gets a chance to play, because he responds extremely well to that.

“He is a leader within the dressing room, has a great personality, drags people with him so it’d be great to have him back again.”

Joe Root on Haseeb Hameed

“One thing I’d say about Has (Haseeb) is that ever since the first day I met him I’ve been extremely impressed with him as a person, with his maturity as a young man…,” Root said.

“I think that served him really well during a difficult spell in his career and now you’re seeing him come into some really good form. I think his game has grown as well, he’s added shots to what is a very strong defence and has turned himself into a brilliant player. His work ethic is outstanding.

“If he gets an opportunity I’m sure he’ll look to take it with both hands and try to make the position his own in this team,” he said.
