India vs England, 1st Test: 3 things that Virat Kohli & Co can do to win the Nottingham Test

Bowl out England under 250

The bowlers will need to ensure that England do not score more than 250 runs. India would be looking to chase as low total as possible at Trent Bridge during their fourth innings. Owing to India’s middle-order problem, they will be looking to avoid any chances of chasing a 200+ score as the ball will start swinging in the later part of the game.

Joe Root’s wicket & wrap up tail quickly

One of the uphill tasks for India would be to get rid of England skipper Joe Root who top-scored for the hosts in the first innings. He has a fair record against India and take the game away from the visitors. They will also have to ensure that the England tail do not wag as it can pose threat to India during the fourth innings. India has a long problem with the tail which costs them matches in overseas conditions. We have already experienced England under pressure after India took 95 runs lead in the first innings.

India’s middle-order woes

The likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, and skipper Virat Kohli will look to avoid their errors in the first innings. India cannot just depend on KL Rahul and R Jadeja to pull off a chase and score in consecutive innings. The likes of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will have to ensure India do not lose any wicket in the last session if India comes out to play the last 10-15 overs.

“Team India will have to bat fourth on a surface that is not like a typical English surface. There are some cracks and there is variable bounce as well. At times, the ball is even stopping at the batsman. Team India do not want to chase more than 100-125 in the last innings,” said Aakash Chopra on YouTube.
