Annu Rani, India’s national record holder will begin her Tokyo Olympics campaign on Tuesday when he lines up at the Olympic Stadium for the women’s javelin throw event. Featuring in her debut Olympics, Rani will hope to make her mark on the tournament and follow the suit of Kamalpreet Kaur and make it to the finals. The 28-year-old threw 62.83m to win the gold in Patiala and qualify for the Olympics, and will bank on her experience of winning the bronze at the 2014 Asian Games.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor qualified for the Olympics with a throw of 21.49m in the Indian Grand Prix-4 at Patiala on June 21st 2021, clearing the 21.10m entry standard. The 26-year-old won gold at the 2018 Asian Games with a 20.75m throw, breaking the Games record and the national record. Toor, making his first appearance at the Olympics will hope to make it to the finals and give himself a shot at a podium finish.

India’s wrestling contingent will begin their campaign with Sakshi Malik first in action on Tuesday. The Indian wrestler will take on Asian Championship silver medallist Bolortuya Khurelkhuu of Mongolia, Sonam came to light when a youngster was able to beat Rio Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik, thrice in the last 12 months. If the Indian can put it across Bolortuya – she will face the winner of Taybe Mustafa (Egypt) vs Lail Nunnes (BRA). Nunnes is ranked No. 3 in the world in the category and will prove to be a tough opponent for Sonam to handle.
