The Hundred: 3 big reasons to watch the 100-ball tournament- The highly-anticipated The Hundred will kick start on July 23. The tournament will feature 8 teams among men and women who will compete for the title in the inaugural edition. The 100-ball event will comprise new and exciting rules to entertain cricket fans, LIVE music in collaboration with BBC for music lovers. It will also feature as many as 5 players from India women team.

 The Hundred: Exciting rules

  • It’s 100 balls per innings. Whoever scores the most runs wins.
  • The fielding side change ends after 10 balls.
  • Bowlers deliver either five or 10 consecutive balls. The captain decides.
  • Each bowler can deliver a maximum of 20 balls per game.
  • Each bowling side gets a strategic timeout of up to two and a half minutes.
  • The coach can walk out to the middle of the ground and discuss tactics with their players mid game.
  • A 25-ball powerplay for each team.
  • Two fielders are allowed outside of the initial 30-yard circle during the powerplay.
  • A match of The Hundred will last two and a half hours.

India women in The Hundred

Five Indian superstars will feature when the competition gets underway this summer.

Shafali Verma is the No. 1 ranked short-form batter and joins Birmingham Phoenix as a replacement for Sophie Devine.

Harmanpreet Kaur will star in the opening match, at the Kia Oval on July 21, as she joins Manchester Originals. Jemimah Rodrigues will feature for Northern Superchargers.

Smriti Mandhana is set to form a devastating opening partnership with Danni Wyatt at Southern Brave, while Deepti Sharma joins England captain Heather Knight at London Spirit.

An unprecedented collaboration. The Hundred is partnering with BBC Music to bring live music back to the UK. Sport and entertainment will collide on a scale never seen before as world-class cricket and a strong line-up of live music fuse to create one of the must-see events of the summer.

Fresh talent that has come through the regional BBC Music Introducing platforms including The Orielles, Jerub, Lady Sanity, Oscar Welsh, Coach Party and Rachel K Collier will be performing at their respective local ground with more acts to be announced in the build-up to the competition.
