India at Tokyo Olympics – India Big Medal Contenders: According to Global Sports Data company, Gracenote India will have its biggest medal haul at the Tokyo Olympics. The company has predicted India will win 17 medals at the Olympics including four gold. According to the Data released in April this year, India will win eight medals in shooting, four in boxing, three in wrestling and one each in archery and weightlifting. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, India had won only two medals, PV Sindhu winning silver in Badminton and Sakshi Malik winning bronze in wrestling. India’s Top-10 medal contenders at Olympics – Deepika Kumari (Archery)

If you want to know about Indian archery and haven’t heard about Deepika kumari, you have missed out on something big. She has been the face of Indian archery for a long time now and will be heading to the Olympics as the World’s number one archer. If her recent World Cup performances at Paris are anything to go by, she looks like a serious medal contender for India at the Olympics.

India’s Top-10 medal contenders at Olympics – Neeraj Chopra (Athletics)

Neeraj Chopra looks like someone who will breach India’s medal drought in athletics at the Tokyo Olympics. He holds the season’s fourth-best throw of 88.07, which he threw at Patiala in 2021. If he breaks his own national record and adds up some more distance in his throw, we could very well see him on the podium.

Amit Panghal is the World’s number one boxer in the 52kg category and will be competing in the same at the Tokyo Olympics. Since the top-ranked boxer gets an easy draw in the initial rounds, it gives him a huge advantage to win a medal for India in boxing.

India’s Top-10 medal contenders at Olympics – Bajrang Punia (Wrestling)

The flag-bearer for India in the closing ceremony will be competing in the 86kg category of freestyle wrestling. He recently won a silver medal at the 2021 Asian Championshipn and won a bronze medal in the 2019 World Championship, making him the favourite for a podium finish in this category.

India’s Top-10 medal contenders at Olympics – Vinesh Phogat (Wrestling)

Vinesh Phogat will compete in the 53kg category of freestyle wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics. This Indian woman wrestler has all the accolades, making her one of the best wrestlers in the World. If not for that injury, She could have won a medal in the last Olympics itself, but she will give her best shot to land on the podium this time.

India’s Top-10 medal contenders at Olympics – Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (Weightlifting)

Mirabai Chanu will be the only Indian lifter competing at the Tokyo Olympics. She will be competing in the 49kg category and hold the world record for clean & jerk in the same category. She will be expected to win at least a silver medal after her Korean competitor pulled out. The Only competition for her will be the Chinese lifter in this category.

If her heroics in the 2016 Olympics fade away from your memory, you wouldn’t have followed her carefully in the last Olympics. It wouldn’t be the same as the last one since many players have come up in these four years, but still, she knows how to get it done in the big tournaments. She will be the only singles player for India after Saina Nehwal not qualifying for the games.

The flag-bearer of India at the Olympics will be competing in the flyweight category of boxing and she is the hot favourites to win a medal in the category. She won a silver medal in the inaugural edition of women’s boxing at the Olympics. If she wins a medal here, it will make her the first Indian woman to win two individual Olympics medals.

India’s Top-10 medal contenders at Olympics – Manu Bhaker (Shooter)

Manu Bhaker will be shooting in as many as three events that no other shooter in the Indian contingent will do. She will be competing in 10m air pistol, 25m air pistol, and 10m air pistol mixed team. If recent performances are anything to go by, she has a golden chance to win a medal in the mixed team event pairing up with Saurabh Chaudhary.

In Tokyo, Saurabh Chaudhary may be the reason India wins a medal on the very first day of the competition, when he takes to the range for the 10m Air Pistol event on July 24. Shooting alongside him will be compatriot Abhishek Verma, who is currently the world No 1. According to India’s only individual OIympic Gold medallist Abhinav Bindra – ‘don’t be surprised if you see Gold & Silver battle between Saurabh and Abhishek in the category’
