Wimbledon Semifinals: Ash Barty to face Pliskova in Wimbledon final, defeats Kerber in straight sets: World No.1 Ash Barty has defeated former champion, Angelique Kerber, in the semifinals of Wimbledon 2021. She defeated her in straight sets 6-3, 6-7 (7-3). She won the opening set comfortably but Kerber fought back in the second set and managed a 3-0 lead which entered a tie-breaker. The 25-year-old kept her nerve to clinch the tie-breaker 7-3.
She will face Karolina Pliskova in Wimbledon final 2021. All three players are yet to win their Wimbledon title in their career as Saturday awaits a new champion.
“This is incredible, this is close to as good a tennis match as I will ever play,” Barty told Reuters.
“Angie brought the best out of me today and it was a hell of a match right from the first ball and I knew I would have to play that well just to compete. Very proud of myself and my team and now we get a chance to win the childhood dream,” she added.
Overall, The top-ranked Barty has lost just one set heading into the semifinals against Kerber. She earlier had defeated Ajla Tomljanovic, Barbora Krejcikova, Katerian Siniakova, Anna blinkova and Carla Suaraz Navarro.
