IPL 2021 Phase 2: Devon Conway in huge demand in IPL: The deserted South African origin player- Devon Conway is truly serving as an oasis in New Zealand Team. After his recent cameos for the Kiwis in the Test series against England and later in the World Test Championship Final, his enigma of cricketing language has been imprinted in IPL franchises’ minds who are chasing the Kiwi star ahead of Phase 2 of IPL 2021.

In the sceptical availability of a majority of overseas players from England and expectedly from Australia in the IPL 2021 Phase 2 during September-October in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), franchises are potentially looking for alternatives in case their foreign players back out at the eleventh hour.

This can potentially see the rise of an unsung hero- Devon Conway who has become the blue-eyed boy following his stint in England. His batting propensity across the spectrum of the ground clubbed with his phenomenal T20I average- 59.12 deems him a haven for the opening position, something he has been doing for New Zealand.

Devon Conway statistical highlights:

Test average: 63.16

ODI average: 75.00, Strike Rate: 88.23

T20I average: 59.12, Strike Rate: 151.11

T20 average: 43.80, Strike Rate: 129.74

InsideSport thus looks at the three potential franchisees who are most likely to contract Conway in the second leg of IPL 2021.

IPL 2021 Phase 2: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

The brunt of the pull-off of England and Australian players will significantly daunt Sunrisers Hyderabad, who in the absence of Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy and David Warner will have a tough time filling the opening spot. Thus, SRH would be ready to spend a few bucks on Conway given the void they would experience otherwise.

IPL 2021 Phase 2: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Conway would next be on KKR’s radar for two crucial reasons- a flop show by openers, especially Shubman Gill, and secondly, skipper Eoin Morgan’s absence. For both- KKR and SRH, the inclusion of Conway in their squad can potentially up their ante in the points table, the two of whom are lurking at the last two positions.

IPL 2021 Phase 2: Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Devon Conway would be a potential favourite for RR for the remaining matches in the absence of England players from their squad. A potentially battered squad in the absence of England players as RR would miss the services of Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone. In such a situation, a solid opener- which Conway is an imperative pre-requisite before filling the other spots.
