Belgrade 2 Final: Novak Djokovic defeats Molcan in straight sets to become champion ahead of the French Open- Novak Djokovic has defeated Alex Molcan in the Belgrade 2 final. The match finished 6-4, 6-3 in favour of the Serbian ahead of the French Open. He will look to take the winning momentum at Roland Garros 2021 which will begin on Sunday. The Australian Open 2021 champion Djokovic will face off T Sandgren in the opening round of the French Open.
“It’s been a while since I last played here in front of a crowd,” Djokovic told ATP Tour
“We played here one month ago [at the Serbia Open], without a crowd. To hold a trophy here after 10 years is really special and it couldn’t be better ahead of Roland Garros. I am playing well, feeling good and I have spent quality time with my family,” he added.
It was Djokovic’s 83rd title of his career. He is only five titles behind French Open defending champion Rafael Nadal (88).
Belgrade 2: Novak Djokovic in red-hot form ahead of French Open
Novak Djokovic had defeated Andrej Martin in three sets to reach the finals of the Belgrade 2 competition. He won the match 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 after losing the second set to reach the final spot ahead of the Paris showpiece event- French Open 2021. The ongoing tournament will help Djokovic keep the winning momentum to compete for consecutive grand slams at Roland Garros 2021.
Earlier, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic had defeated Argentina’s Federico Coria 6-1,6-0 in the quarterfinals of the ATP Belgrade Open 2021 to enter the semifinals. He entered the quarterfinals after thrashing Mats Moraing.
