Former Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic kept his nerve to deceive Thibaut Courtois from the spot and restore Sevilla’s lead in the 77th minute but Real somehow stayed alive in an enthralling title race when Toni Kroos tried his luck and saw his shot diverted into the net off the boot of Diego Carlos
Julen Lopetegui’s side managed to hold on in normal time but then faced an extra six minutes of stoppage time and was undone when Toni Kroos’s strike took a wicked deflection and beat Bono.
The result means Atletico stays top on 77 points and remains two clear of Real Madrid and Barcelona with now just three games left to play.
