World Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers: Sumit Malik bows out due to knee injury- India’s Sumit Malik, who confirmed his Tokyo Olympics berth last night after qualifying for the finals in 125kg, unfortunately, could not participate in his gold medal bout today.

Malik suffered a knee injury after last night’s bout. The Indian grappler was supposed to be vying for gold after he outclassed Jose Daniel DIAZ ROBERTTI of Venezuela 5-0 in his semifinals bout.

World Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers: Sumit Malik bows out due to knee injury- Speaking about the injury, coach Jagminder revealed, “We have decided to withdraw as he is not fit. Have given medical to UWW for the same. Will settle for silver for now. All eyes on Olympics.”

Nisha, meanwhile, had was seeded into the pre-quarterfinals where she faced Natalia Iwonz Strzalka (POL). The youngster kicked off her campaign with an emphatic 12-1 win over her Polish counterpart.

World Wrestling Qualifiers – Disappointment for Kadian & Dhankar: Two other experienced Indians in fray, Asian medallist Amit Dhankar (74kg) and Commonwealth Games medallist Satyawart Kadian (97kg), had disappointment in store.

Dhankar lost to Mihail Sava 9-6 in the first round and subsequently went out of the medal race when the Moldovan faced defeat in the next round.

Kadian beat Evan Ramos of Puerto Rico 5-2, but lost to Ahmed Bataev of Bulgaria 5-5, via criteria, in the quarterfinals.
