SRH vs RCB IPL 2021 Match Highlights: Glenn Maxwell, Shabhaz Ahmed shines as RCB beat SRH to go on top of points table – David Warner’s fantastic half-century went in vain as a monumental collapse meant Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 runs to go top of the table with 4 points in two games. Glenn Maxwell’s 59 off 41 helped RCB set a 150-run target at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday. But despite a good stand, SRH failed to get past the finish line as a three-wicket over from Shahbaz Ahmed rattled SRH’s deep batting line-up.
SRH was right on track for a win with David Warner and Manish Pandey stitching an 83-run stand for the second wicket but the side lost the plot in the middle overs. SRH collapsed from 96/1 to 123/6 within 4.4 overs and managed 143/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
SRH needed just 35 of 24 balls – with 8 wickets in hand, but they lost 7 wickets scoring only 29 and lost the match by 6 runs.

SRH vs RCB IPL 2021 match highlights: Earlier, sent to bat, Royal Challengers Bangalore were off to a decent start before Devdutt Padikkal, making a comeback from COVID-19 recovery, departed in the third over. Shahbaz, who was promoted up the order, had his fair share of chances where he smoked a four but Shahbaz Nadeem got the better of him as RCB lost the second wicket just after the completion of powerplay.
The next few overs saw skipper Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell scoring at a sluggish rate before the Australian all-rounder smashed two sixes and one four in Nadeem’s final over. With that Glenn Maxwell brought up his first half-century of IPL 2021 and first since IPL 2016.
SRH vs RCB IPL 2021 match highlights: However, SRH again came back in the game with two quick wickets of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. While Holder dismissed Kohli in the 12th over, Rashid sent the former Proteas batsman back in the hut in the next over. In the death overs, Maxwell kept slogging the ball to complete his gutsy fifty as RCB posted 149.
With a modest total on the scoreboard, RCB had to bring up a good bowling show to defend the total. Mohammed Siraj did just that. In his first three overs, he gave 12 dot balls and scalped the wicket of struggling Wridhiman Saha.
But skipper David Warner and Manish Pandey carried the innings and ensured SRH didn’t lose a wicket as the duo took their side to 50/1 at the end of the powerplay. While Manish Pandey played a run-a-ball knock, David Warner was in his prime best as he took on the RCB bowlers and completed his fifty in just 31 balls. It was Warner’s 49th IPL fifty.
SRH vs RCB IPL 2021 match highlights: RCB finally took a sigh of relief when Kyle Jamieson dismissed Warner in the 14th over. But Warner’s wicket triggered a major collapse as SRH lost five batsmen in 4.4 overs. Shahbaz Ahmed was the star of the show in RCB’s bowling attack. The youngster picked three key wickets and delivered when RCB needed him the most.
In the end, Rashid Khan tried to get SRH over the line but was run out in an attempt to take a double.
“Our bowlers were fantastic to restrict them. Maxwell batted well and set the platform. We needed two set batsmen at the end, but we failed to do that. We needed to build a partnership and play proper cricket shots. We played cross-batted shots, and that’s not the way to play here. This hurts. We know how to approach the upcoming games. We have another three games here and I think the wickets are going to get better. We need minimum damage in the first six overs and play simple cricket. The team batting second should have won all four games. This is exactly what happened last night,” David Warner said after the match.
