First captain to complete hat-trick IPL victories

Rohit Sharma can become the IPL captain to win back-to-back titles for the third straight season. They have won the consecutive title in 2019 and 2020. Only CSK skipper MS Dhoni had won two back-to-back IPL trophies (in 2010 and 2011).

Overall, MI emerged victorious in 5 seasons while Rohit Sharma has won the title six times (including Deccan Chargers victory in 2009).

Most sixes in IPL

Rohit Sharma is only 4 sixes behind to overtake MS Dhoni in the leaderboard of most sixes in IPL. Hitman has scored 213 sixes in 200 matches while MS Dhoni hit 216 sixes in 204 matches. The 33-year-old can also overtake AB de Villiers (235) to become the second-highest six-hitter in the IPL history. Provided the two batsmen will also play IPL 2021, Rohit needs to smash as many sixes as he can to breach the records.

Most wins in IPL

Rohit Sharma is all set to go past Gautam Gambhir’s record of second-most victories in IPL matches. The latter won 71 out of 129 matches, including two IPL trophies. Rohit has 68 wins in 116 matches as skipper. His winning percentage is highest among all IPL captains.

Highest individual score

Rohit Sharma is known for his power-hitting ability in limited-overs format. He has three double tons to his name in ODIs. The right-handed-batsman can break Chris Gayle’s record of highest individual record in an IPL match. The West Indies opening batsman had smashed 175 off just 66 balls against now-defunct Pune Warriors India (PWI) in IPL 2013. His innings included 17 sixes and 13 fours.

Highest runs/ most tons in an IPL season

Virat Kohli’s deputy Rohit Sharma can break the record of most IPL tons and runs in a single IPL season. Kohli had slammed 4 centuries and went on to score 973 runs in IPL 2016. Owing to his attacking brand of cricket, one can bank on Rohit Sharma to break these two records.

6,000 runs in IPL

If he goes on to break the above record, Rohit Sharma could also complete 6,000 runs in IPL. He needs 730 runs to reach the milestone of 6,000 runs in T20Is. He has played 200 matches and scored 5,230 at an average of 42+. He scored the highest IPL runs in 2013—538 runs in 19 matches.

The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League / IPL 2021 is slated to kick off in Chennai on April 9, defending champions Mumbai Indians will lock horns against Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the tournament opener. Rohit Sharma-led MI would like to begin their IPL 2021 campaign on a high note with a victory. They will be looking for their sixth IPL title. As per experts, they are favourites to win the title yet again this season.
