WWE Peacock removes controversial & racism content from platform: Roddy Piper’s match at WrestleMania VI has been withdrawn from the official replay due to allusions to racism.

Another segment involving Vince McMahon was also removed from the platform.

On March 18, the US version of WWE Network began its incorporation process to Peacock . The audiovisual content platform managed by NBCUniversal will become the exclusive home for all the wrestling company’s content as of April 6, the day the original application in the United States will be discontinued.

With the arrival of new content to Peacock, many users noted several cases of cuts that did not occur in the traditional version of WWE Network. The example that has passed the most is the match between Roddy Piper and Bad News Brown at WrestleMania VI. During the interviews and the confrontation, “Rowdy” wore half of his body painted a dark color , similar to the skin tone of an African American.

As a result of the fight against racism in the United States, the so-called “Blackface” has been a resource that caused rejection in recent times. Several streaming services have chosen to remove scenes and even entire material that include actors who have paint on their skin. In this case,  WrestleMania VI has lost twelve minutes of its duration as a result of the cut made by Peacock during the transfer of content.

Peacock removes Vince McMahon and Booker T segment at Survivor Series 2005

Another event that was also affected by Peacock’s hand is Survivor Series 2005. The pay-per-view featured a segment in which Vince McMahon launched a racist insult towards Booker T. That interaction was completely eliminated from replay. when the event was moved to the NBCU platform.

Many fans noted that the original WWE Network app still preserves the segments mentioned in this note. The same happens in the international versions, which remain intact and without any kind of change in those scenes. Peacock’s actions towards controversial WWE content could assure us that make further cuts as content for the platform grows.
