The rebranding, which co-owner Preity Zinta said long-awaited, was to capture the spirit of Punjab. Since IPL 2018, PBKS have been involved in a lot of social media activities, trying to portray the essence of Punjab. In a photo that was shared on its social media handles, Chris Gayle was seen wearing a turban, a symbol of the Sikh religion.
While both Zinta and the players including former star Glenn Maxwell have been popular in Punjab, their lacklustre performance on the field hasn’t done any favours. The change of name was met with criticism and trolling on social media platforms.
