IPL IPL 2021, Shreyas Iyer injury updateShreyas Iyer injury update: Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the remaining two ODI matches between India and England series due to a dislocated shoulder. The Mumbai-batsman will also miss the opening clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and is likely to miss the first half of the season.
“The preliminary view is that he requires surgery but further opinion has been sought from an expert in this regard and if the surgery takes place, which seems likely, he would miss the entire IPL season,” a source told ANI.
On Tuesday, Iyer was taken for scans immediately after he walked off the field during the eighth over of England’s chase. In a flash medical report, BCCI had reported that Iyer had “subluxated” (partially dislocated) his shoulder. This is the second time in the last six months that the 26-year-old has hurt his shoulder. He picked one during the white-ball series against Australia.

While his unavailability will not hurt Virat Kohli’s Team India, it is Delhi Capitals that will be worried the most.
IPL 2021: Big blow for Delhi Capitals
This comes as a big blow for the IPL 13 runner-ups as Iyer has been in good form. The DC skipper in 17 games scored 516 runs. More importantly, it was his captaincy, which has stood out the entire season.
The way he used his two lead pacers Kagiso Rabada and Anriche Nortje during the pressure situation was commendable. Also, DC under his leadership since 2018 has improved each season.

Iyer took DC’s captain hat after Gautam Gambhir stepped down mid-way IPL 2018 season. In his first year as full-time captain in 2019, Delhi finished third in the group stage They got one better when they played their maiden final in 2020.
It is likely that Rishabh Pant, Iyer’s deputy in DC will lead the side in his absence.
IPL 2021: DC starts training camp in Mumbai
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals has shifted to Mumbai to begin their training camp for the upcoming season. Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, and Umesh Yadav are amongst some of the players to have reported for the camp so far. They will undergo a seven-day mandatory quarantine before hitting the field.
