IPL 2021: These KKR, Punjab Kings, RR, SRH, DC and RCB players shined in Vijay Hazare Trophy- The month-long Vijay Hazare Trophy came to an end on Sunday. Prithvi Shaw-led Mumbai became champions while Uttar Pradesh emerged as runners up. As many as 32 teams across the country took part in the high-voltage 50-over competition. The tournament holds significance as it helps to find key players for India and IPL. Several name names including IPL players performed exceptionally well in the tournament. Here are players from (Nitish Rana) KKR, (Shahrukh Khan) Punjab Kings, (Mahipal Lomror) RR, (Priyam Garg) SRH, (Prithvi Shaw) DC and (Devdutt Padikkal) RCB who shined ahead of IPL 2021. The form will keep them motivated to play key innings in the IPL as franchises bid to win the title.
Nitish Rana (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Ahead of IPL 2021, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Nitish Rana has emerged as one of the top run-getters in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy. The left-handed-batsman amassed 398 runs in 7 innings at an average of 66.33. He also smashed a century against Puducherry. Nitish Rana’s scorecards in Vijay Hazare Trophy read: 137, 42, 27, unbeaten 88, 81 and 21 for Delhi.
The left-handed-batsman has been a vital player in the middle order for KKE over the last few editions of IPL. He has made significant contributions in the middle and often helped KKr to put up or chase high scores after a top-order collapse. He had a decent outing in the 2020 edition of IPL scoring 352 runs, including 3 fifties. He has scored over 300 runs for four consecutive seasons in IPL since 2017.
Shahrukh Khan (Punjab Kings)
Tamil Nadu batsman Shahrukh Khan became a household name during IPL 2021 auctions. Preity Zinta co-owned Punjab Kings bought him at base price. The cricketer must be high in confidence ahead of his IPL debut. He has slammed 198 runs in 5 innings at an average of 67 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Shahrukh Khan is likely to get a place in the middle and Punjab Kings need someone in the middle-order to turn their fortunes around in IPL 2021 as KL Rahul-led Punjab Kings eye their maiden trophy.
Priyam Garg (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
One of the promising youngsters from the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp, Priyam Garg amassed as many as 286 runs in Vijay Hazare Trophy, including a century and a couple of fifties. The right-handed batsman plays for SRH in the middle-order. He can win a few matches by playing the anchor role and ensuring he protect his wicket on one end. In his previous stint in IPL, Priyam Garg scored 133 runs, including a match-winning 51 not out.
Mahipal Lomror (Rajasthan Royals)
Rajasthan Royals batsman Mahipal Lomror has amassed 272 runs in 5 Vijay Hazare Trophy innings. The left-hander didn’t get enough chance to prove his worth in IPL for last three years. He has scored a promising fifty against RCB in one of three innings, he played for RR last year. Lomror is expected to play more number of matches in IPL 2021 under skipper Sanju Samson.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals’ and Royal Challengers Bangalore openers Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal emerged as top run-getters. They are expected to help DC and RCB chase their first IPL silverware. Read more here
