IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings ready to lay-off 7-8 big players before IPL 2021 Auctions

IPL 2021 Auctions – Chennai Super Kings Revamp: If any team is looking for complete revamp of the team for 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) i.e Chennai Super Kings (CSK). CSK which struggled big time in IPL 2020 and was often criticized for being team of players who were well pass prime is looking for revamp. The IPL 2021 Mini Auction will be their opportunity to make necessary changes in the team.

But there is a problem – problem of not have enough monies in their wallet. CSK just has 15 Lac left in the player purse and IPL Governing Council has already announced that the purse for IPL 2021 auctions will not be increased. Only way now CSK can revamp their team is by releasing players from their 2020 line-up.

InsideSport on Monday had revealed that CSK will be releasing Kedar Jadhav from the IPL contract and that will give them 7.8 Cr. 35 year Jadhav had a horrendous IPL 2020 and source close to CSK told InsideSport, it will cost him IPL 2021 contract.

“Jadhav was not in best of form in IPL 2020. He was also struggling with his fitness. CSK will move on from Jadhav in IPL 2021, everyone in the team management feels that it will be prudent to take this hard call and invest in future’, said the source close to CSK management.

But now the info coming in from CSK camp is that not only Jadhav but minimum 7-8 big players will be released before Jan 21st deadline by CSK.

The players on the firing line will be –
1) Kedar Jadhav – 7.8 Cr
2) Imran Tahir – 1 Cr
3) Piyush Chawla – 6.75 Cr
4) Harbhajan Singh – 2 Cr
5) Murali Vijay – 2 Cr
6) Dwayne Bravo – 6.4 Cr (Subject to his fitness)
7) Josh Hazlewood 2.0 Cr
8) Karn Sharma 5 Cr

This entire exercise will give CSK 33 Cr in their hand to do shopping for new players in the auction. Other than this CSK also will have 4 Cr addition to the kitty which will come in lieu of Shane Watson’s retirement from IPL post season 13th.

The sources also informed InsideSport – CSK is still indecisive about continuing with Ambati Rayudu (2.2 Cr Salary) and Du Plessis (1.6 Cr salary). The final decision about the same will be taken in the next few days.

Another big decision which CSK will have to take is about Suresh Raina. The Southpaw will be watched very closely and keenly by CSK team management during Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. His performance in the tournament will determine if Raina will be retained by CSK for 11 Cr contract or not.

Players certain to be retained by CSK – Some of the consistent performers for CSK in IPL 2020 along with captain MS Dhoni (15 Cr) are set to be retained. The list of retained players will include –

1) MS Dhoni (15 Cr)
2) Deepak Chahar
3) Lungi Ngidi (0.50 Cr)
4) Ravindra Jadeja (7Cr)
5) Ruturaj Gaikwad (0.2Cr)
6) Shardul Thakur (2.6 Cr)
7) Sam Curran (5.5 Cr)
8) Narayan Jagadeeshan (0.2)

IPL 2021 auction date: IPL 2021 mini-auctions likely to be held on 11th February

The IPL 2021 auction is likely to be held on February 11. Before that the IPL franchises will have to decide on the list of their retained and released players. The deadline as announced by IPL GC Chairman is 21st January. The eight IPL teams will decide on the list of retained and released players by this deadline. The IPL Governing Council is yet to decide on the venue of the auction.

Other than this, IPL GC will also take some time to decide whether IPL 2021 will take place in India or not. According to the info available with InsideSport, the IPL GC headed by Brijesh Patel has decided that they will wait to see the situation during Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 before deciding on the venue of IPL 2021.

IPL 2021: When will IPL 14 begin?

BCCI is yet to announce the dates for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 14th edition. However, the latest England tour of India schedule has given a hint of when it IPL 2021 can start from. The IPL 2021 will most likely start in the 2nd week of April.

The BCCI had last month announced the dates for India’s four-Test, five T20I and three ODI series against England. The two-month-long series begins from February 5 in Chennai for the first Test. The longest-format of the game ends on March 8.

It will be followed by T20I series which is scheduled from March 12 to 20. Following this, India and England play the ODI series which ends on March 28.

After this long and hectic series, it is likely that the players would want a small break before joining their respective IPL franchises for IPL 2021. Even franchises will also want their star players to fulfil commercial commitments with sponsors.
