The Indian Premier League (IPL) has never seen anything better. A rookie domestic cricketer from Haryana Rahul Tewatia hit sixes at will against the world class bowlers like Sheldon Cottrell & Mohammad Shami to score one of the most memorable victory in the IPL history.
Chasing 224, Rajasthan Royals at one point of time were looking completely out of the game as score read 2 for 140 at the end of 15 overs. Royals needed 84 in 30 balls. Not even the biggest of the backer of Royals would have believed what they saw later.
27 year old Rahul Tewatia did something unbelievable as he turned the game upside down by hitting 6 sixes in space of 7 balls to win the game for his team. What was more amazing was that Tewatia took 19 balls to score his first 8 runs and ended up with 53 from 31 balls in the end
– Check what exactly happened –
Cottrell came to bowl the 17th over to Tewatia and things all of a sudden changed –
17.1 – Cottrell to Tewatia, SIX runs. Cottrell follows him with a bouncer, but he manages to get inside the line to pull him flat over long leg
17.2 – Cottrell to Tewatia, SIX runs Tewatia gets a short of a length ball, stands his ground and swings to leg. Not off the absolute middle of the bat but enough to clear the short square boundary and onto the road
17.3 – Cottrell to Tewatia, SIX runs Cottrell pitches up, and he goes over wide long-off
17.4 – Cottrell to Tewatia, SIX runs Tewatia goes across, shuffles early gets a wide low full toss, and sweeps it over midwicket for another flat six
17.5 – No run
17.6 – Cottrell to Tewatia, SIX runs Tewatia hits a wide length ball over midwicket for another six.
Post that Mohammad Shami came to bowl the next over. With Shami in great shape it looked unlikely that he will leak loose balls like Cottrell did. Shami started with wicket of Robin Uthappa and then was clobbered for two consecutive sixes by Jofra Archer.
18.5 – Tewatia again on strike facing Shami – Result is the same. Six Runs. Short ball, outside off, and he has upper-cut it for a six.
Rahul Tewatia has hit another ball for six and ensured that Rajasthan Royals win the historic run chase. 7 balls – Six Sixes by Tewatia changed it all for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020.
