GT’s Siraj still has it despite RCB & Champions Trophy snub, can he ace it in IPL 2025?

Siraj will have a tough task at hand to prove his worth in GT after being released by RCB ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction

Mohammed Siraj may have found a new home in Gujarat Titans but his ambitions are very much old in nature. The Hyderabad pacer was released by RCB ahead of the mega auction despite being the spearhead of their pace attack for multiple seasons. Comebacks are always better than the setbacks. And Siraj is determined to prove his mettle once again, this time as a part of a new team.

Can Siraj rediscover old self in IPL 2025?

Siraj went through a tough time in the recent past. Despite being India’s second most over-worked bowler in 2024, he tasted very little success in T20Is and ODIs. He was dropped from the T20I, ODI and Champions Trophy side because the selectors didn’t consider him to be worthy of performing with the new ball. Siraj’s best performance in the previous calendar year came in Tests, where he managed to bag 39 wickets. On the contrary, he only managed to take 2 wickets in 2024 – 1 in the T20 World Cup and 1 in the Sri Lanka series.

The Hyderabad pacer has played 93 IPL matches and has picked as many wickets at an average of 30.34, and an economy of 8.64. That is just poor, for a quality bowler like him, who has so much promise. Last year too, he was below average where he picked 15 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 9.18.

However, Siraj has shown signs of redemtpion before IPL 2025. In a warm-up game for GT, he bowled five yorkers, hinting at at mouth-watering treat for fans in the upcoming edition.

Siraj might face a staunch challenge from Prasidh Krishna and Ishant Sharma in finding a spot in GT’s playong XI in IPL 2025. Both pacers have not only the height advantange but also can bowl more variities compared to the Hyderabad pacer.
