Scopely, a leading mobile games company and a subsidiary of Savvy Games Group, has announced its acquisition of Niantic’s games business. The acquisition deal valued at $3.5 billion. This acquisition includes popular mobile games such as “Pokémon GO,” “Pikmin Bloom,” and “Monster Hunter Now,” as well as community-building apps like “Campfire” and “Wayfarer.” The deal will bring Niantic’s world-class team of game developers to Scopely, further strengthening Scopely’s position in the mobile gaming market.
Pokémon GO will be part of Scopely Portfolio
“Pokémon GO,” a global phenomenon, has consistently ranked among the top 10 mobile games since its launch in 2016, boasting over 100 million unique players last year. The game has generated over $8 billion in lifetime revenue and continues to engage a massive fan community. Combined, Scopely and Niantic’s game portfolios will create a global player community of over half a billion players.
Savvy Games Group’s acquisition of Scopely in 2023 and this recent deal with Niantic are considered two of the largest games transactions by a private company in the last decade. Brian Ward, CEO of Savvy, emphasized that this acquisition demonstrates Savvy’s support for Scopely’s goals and reinforces Scopely’s position as a major player in the gaming industry.
