Ben Stokes opts out of The Hundred to manage workload ahead of The Ashes

The Hundred is slated to begin on 5th August 2025 while the Ashes begins on 21st November

The England Cricket Team captain Ben Stokes won’t be taking part in The Hundred this upcoming summer. Recovering from his hamstring injury, the ace all-rounder plans on managing his fitness right before The Ashes. Ben Stokes is recovering from his left hamstring injury which he suffered last August and then recurred in December.

Espncrinfo reports that Ben Stokes made the decision after having a discussion with Northern Supercharges head coach Andrew Flintoff. The Hundred is slated to begin on 5th August after the Three Lions finish their 5-match Test series against India. With The Ashes slated to commence in late November, the southpaw remains to be 100% fit before the start of the mega series.

Ben Stokes to miss The Hundred as precaution

It is a move of caution for the England captain who has been injury-plagued over the last couple of years. Last year in the Hundred, he suffered a tear on his left hamstring and was injured in the 3-Test match series against Sri Lanka, and opening 3 Tests against Pakistan. Ben Stokes then further damaged his hamstring while bowling against New Zealand and thus was ruled out of SA20.

Ben Stokes is set to be fit by May and is likely to feature in the Test against Zimbabwe. Following this he plans to be a proper all-rounder in the Test series against England and in the Ashes. Thus in a bid to manage workload, he has decided to opt out of the Hundred.

Reports further claim that he has no plans to part ways with Northern Superchargers. But he plans on keeping a close contact with the teams and will be playing for the side in the future. Apart from Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali too will be missing from the Hundred as he plans to retire from domestic cricket later this year.
