The thirteenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) will kickstart from September 19 in Abu Dhabi. Among the eight franchises, Delhi Capitals will begin their campaign against KXIP, a day after the opening match between MI vs CSK.

However, the Delhi Capitals are the only side who are yet to even reach an IPL final. The young and dynamic side of Delhi were captained by Shreyas Iyer in previous two editions and they did well in the last season by reaching playoffs.

Let us analyze where the revamped set-up of DC and if Shreya Iyer can propel the team to their maiden IPL final appearance.

1. Strength

Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020: A balance of experience and youngsters

They have a squad that offers a good mix of youth and experience. The likes of Shreyas, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw add the dash of youth while the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, bought from Rajasthan Royals, R Ashwin, bought from Kings XI Punjab, Ishant Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, who arrived from Sunrisers Hyderabad, brings in loads of experience with them. They have also added some foreign players who could lend some muscle like Jason Roy, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Woakes, Alex Carey, Shimron Hetmyer.

The West Indian pacer Keemo Paul and South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada too have proved worthy in the last edition as they entered the play-offs after a long gap. India pacer Ishant Sharma will provide some depth and nuance to the attack.

Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020: Spin-laden attack can benefit in the UAE

With the trade of Ravichandran Ashwin from Kings XI Punjab along with the already present Axar Patel, Amit Mishra and young Nepal sensation Sandeep Lamichhane, DC have several spinning options with all of them having ample international experience. Knowing that the home ground traditionally is a slow surface, the trio will be looking forward to unleashing their bag of tricks in the home games.

2. Weakness

Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020: Lack of matchwinners

On the paper, they now have a settled and potent line-up. The Capitals showed that they can challenge the big boys in the IPL 2019 while entering the play-offs. But can they go that extra mile and grab the silverware? They will have to produce a strong team effort and be mindful of their propensity to fade from the radar after a good season.

Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020: Threadbare pace attack

After the trade of Trent Boult to Mumbai Indians, Delhi capitals lacks quality in their fast bowling department. Apart from Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma Delhi’s fast bowling doesn’t look promising. If any one of them gets injured there is not enough backup for them. Tushar Deshpande a young fast bowler from Mumbai has impressed everyone with his performance in domestic cricket. But, he too has a very little experience.

3. X-factor (Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020)

Rishabh Pant was the second-highest run-scorer for the Delhi Capitals last season and was probably their best batsman. Highest ranked DC player, in the IPL MVP list for the past two season, Pant will undoubtedly be the ‘X-Factor’ for a well balanced DC side that will look to finally get their hands on an elusive IPL title.

4. Jersey and Sponsor (Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020)

The teams Principal Sponsors include: JSW Group, Ebix Cash and Lotus Herbals
The other sponsors and partners include–Balkrishna Industries Ltd (BKT), Jio, Coca Cola, BKT, Boat, Paytm Insider, Dream11, Fever 1014, radio Nasha, courier DTDC and Sqadgear
