Virat Kohli follows Rohit Sharma’s route, gets to form right before ICC Champions Trophy

Virat Kohli's last ODI fifty also came at the Narendra Modi Stadium—the infamous ODI World Cup 2023 Final.

For a moment, let’s just put aside the ‘Jasprit Bumrah’ drama and highlight the positives from the ongoing India vs England ODI series. In Nagpur, Shreyas Iyer dominated. In Cuttack, Rohit Sharma came up with a delightful century. Going into the third ODI, one would’ve hoped for Virat Kohli to get amongst runs. Well, guess what? The modern-day master has delivered! Kohli, who was struggling with dwindling form, has come up with a much-needed fifty in the Ahmedabad one-day international.

Virat Kohli scores a much-needed 52

Ever since making his white-ball debut, Virat Kohli has been the man for India in every ICC tournament. Take a look at the ODI World Cup 2023, where he ended up as the highest run-getter with 765 runs. In the final against Australia, Kohli made a half-century as well. Fast forward now, and the former Indian captain has attained another fifty-plus score at the very same ground—the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Kohli was short of runs for some time now. He had a horrible 2024, making just 655 runs at a low average of 21.83. These are stats from all formats. But now, a 55-ball 52 on Wednesday would surely amp up his confidence going into the ICC Champions Trophy. After India lost captain Rohit Sharma early, Kohli joined Shubman Gill in the middle. The duo completely mauled down the English attack. They utilised the powerplay suprebly and stitched a stand of 116 runs off only 107 balls.

Kohli played some delightful strokes, hammering seven fours and a six. Talking about that six, Kohli took a massive risk, going over the head of the long-off fielder. He hit that shot when batting on 43 and soon got to his 73rd fifty.
