The spin conundrum in the India Cricket Team continues. Who makes the Playing XI? Kuldeep Yadav or Varun Chakravarthy? Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has urged the Indian team management not to bench Kuldeep Yadav for Chakravarthy. He has urged that Kuldeep is India’s premier spinner, so if needed both should be played.
The Indian management finalized their squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. Harshit Rana was added to the squad to replace the unfit Jasprit Bumrah. Meanwhile, Varun Chakravarthy was added to the squad in place of Yashasvi Jaiswal. The young southpaw remains as the non-traveling reserves for the team.

No Varun over Kuldeep Yadav
With Varun Chakravarthy’s addition to the team, the Men in Blue will now travel to Dubai with 5 spinners in their ranks. Chopra suggested that in tracks like Sharjah, 5 spinners would work wonders, But he was quite unsure about using an abundance of spinners in Dubai.
“India has picked 5 spinners for Champions Trophy. FIVE. Sharjah would be an ideal venue for this squad. Spin To Win. Dubai?? Not so sure. That surface hasn’t helped spinners as much…ever. Also, I really hope that Kuldeep isn’t benched for Varun. Play both if you must…but Kuldeep has to be India’s premier spinner,” wrote Aakash Chopra.
Over the years, Kuldeep Yadav has played a key role in India’s success in major ICC events. Back in the 2023 ODI World Cup, he went on to scalp 15 wickets from just 11 games. Come the T20 World Cup 2024, he bagged 10 wickets from 5 games as India lifted the silverware.
