What Cristiano Ronaldo is to football is exactly what Jasprit Bumrah is to cricket. What does former England fast bowler Steve Harmison think? There is no doubt that Bumrah is the best in business across formats at the moment in international cricket, but is he on the same level as Ronaldo, who’s been dominating football for the last two decades?
Jasprit Bumrah, unreplaceable
Harmison praised the fast bowler and added that people turn on their TVs and make time just to watch Bumrah go against the best in the toughest of times. “He’s Jasprit Bumrah. For me, you can’t replace Bumrah anytime. And I mean, I would even go up to the morning of the final to take him that far because he’s Bumrah. He’s the best in the world. That would be my take from an Indian point of view,” Harmison said on TalkSport.

Bumrah equal to Ronaldo?
Currently, there isn’t any surety as to whether Bumrah will play in the ICC Champions Trophy. He’s under the medical staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) at the moment, and since the deadline for announcing the final squad for the 8-team tournament is February 11 (today), an update will be out soon. Harmison says it’ll be sad if Bumrah doesn’t play for the India cricket team, similar to if Ronaldo can’t feature for Portugal.
“It’s like going to a football World Cup without your best striker, Cristiano Ronaldo. Fifteen years ago, you don’t replace Ronaldo until you have to. That’s what I imagine India will do with Bumrah. It’s a 14-man squad. That’s good enough to get me through the group games. We might get him by the semifinal, more than the semifinal. If he’s not fit, we’ll replace him just in case we have another injury. But he’s Jasprit Bumrah,” Harmison added.
