Robin Uthappa identifies Virat Kohli or KL Rahul as “Mr. Fix-it” of Team India

Everything is reportedly not hunky dory in the Indian team dressing room. After the 3-1 BGT loss, India would hope to gel well as a unit come the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The word “Mr. Fix-it” was spread across the cricketing community after reports emerged of cracks in the Indian dressing room. Following the defeat in the Boxing Day Test in the BGT, the Indian cricket team found itself in a situation of mess. The loss was a blow, and issues in the dressing room came to light. It was also revealed that a senior player has positioned himself as a interim captaincy option, labelling himself as India’s ‘Mr. Fix-It,’ though it’s believed he doubts the young players’ capacity to lead. But is he Virat Kohli or KL Rahul? Well, Robin Uthappa won’t be surprised if this is the case.

“It could be KL Rahul or Virat Kohli”

Robin Uthappa, who previously condemned this development in the Indian team dressing room, was spotted talking about the matter in a Lallantop interview. He initially remained conscious of not uttering a player’s name but then was pressurised to do so. Talking about the matter, he said:

“I am the kind of person, if something is going on, I directly mention it. In the team, I know people individually. But when a tour is going on, a tournament is going on, I don’t talk to any of them because every player has his own routine and mindset. At that point, it doesn’t feel right to enter into their space. So I don’t talk to anyone during a tournament, nor do I message anyone, even if they play good or bad. If they are playing bad, then I do drop a message to motivate them. If they have done well, made some records, then I congratulate them. But besides that I don’t interact.”

Uthappa opined to the reports and said that the said player is one of the seniors in the side. After chucking the list, he came up with two players: Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Interestingly, both are now in contention to lead the Test team in future. After Rohit Sharma dropping himself from the Sydney Test, the call for his retirement isn’t new. If he does bid adieu, who will replace Rohit? If might not be Jasprit Bumrah given his injury issues. This leaves a space open for Kohli, KL Rahul or even Rishabh Pant.

I don’t know who is Mr Fix-it. But if he has come out. People say it is speculation. For me, in the Indian team, there is no smoke without fire. It is senior players.” In that sense, it is speculative. But there is another side to this also. But for me what do I care about, the Indian team being perceived right. Especially during the course of an important series. This is the most important series and during that, even if that happens, keep it inside, why take it outside. It could be KL Rahul, Virat Kohli. We think Rahul is not senior, he has been in the side for the last eight-nine years.”
