The India Cricket Team will continue its hunt for silverware in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. After missing out on the ODI World Cup 2023 last time, the Men in Blue will be hungry to lift the ICC trophy again. And for doing so, India needs to field their best pace bowling attack in the tournament. This means India’s pace trio should ideally be Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.
The batters can win you games, but it is the bowlers who win the tournament. The team with the better bowling lineup always has the best chance of taking out a game. And this was clearly evident in the last two World Cups. India had a strong bowling attack which resulted in reaching the finals of the ODI World Cup and winning the T20 World Cup 2024.
Why bowlers win you Tournaments?
The stats don’t lie. Back in the 2023 World Cup, Mohammed Shami emerged as the highest wicket-taker with 24 wickets to his name from just 7 games. Jasprit Bumrah was 4th highest with 20 caps from 11 games. And Siraj managed 14 scalps from 11 games. India’s spinners too were on fire as Jadeja (16) and Kuldeep (15) contributed handsomely.
The T20 World Cup 2024 was no different. Arshdeep Singh was joint highest with 17 scalps, Bumrah had 15, Hardik scalped 11 and Kuldeep managed 10. These stats are definitive proof that the performance of the bowlers in such big tournaments directly affects the position of the team.

For the Men in Blue, the side last won the ICC Champions Trophy back in 2013. And now India will be ready to reclaim the trophy after 12 years. The last time, India emerged as runners-up to Pakistan was in 2017. Lastly, it can also be a good farewell for the seniors in the team like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja who are quite possibly playing their last Champions Trophy.
For India, the best bowling attack consists of the pacer trio of Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj. Hardik Pandya will operate as the fourth pacer in the team. In the reserves, India will also have Arshdeep Singh. As for the spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja are the most touted spinners. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are set to be backups.
As for Jasprit Bumrah, his participation remains a major doubt. The ace pacer suffered a back stress injury during the Sydney Test. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami is tipped to be a part of the squad after having recovered from his injury.
