Archie Vaughan was named captain of the England Under-19 team. He is following in the footsteps of his father, who was a legendary captain of England. He will be leading England’s U19 team on the tour of South Africa.
Who is Archie Vaughan?
During the 1993–94 season, Michael Vaughan led his country at the Under-19 level. He went on to captain England in 51 Test matches, including the historic 2005 Ashes win.
Archie made his Somerset debut as an all-rounder last season. His team will face the Proteas in three Youth ODIs and two Youth Tests in Cape Town and Stellenbosch from January 17 to February 6.
“To get the opportunity to represent England at this level is really special in itself, but to lead the team out is something else, if someone had told me 12 months ago that I would have forced my way into the Somerset first team and be captaining the under-19s, I wouldn’t have believed them. The next step is to try and win in South Africa and hopefully I can perform as well,” said Archie.
