India cricket team have decided to take a bold call and drop their captain Rohit Sharma from the side for IND vs AUS 5th Test in Sydney. Several reports ahead of the game had indicated that the Hitman was going to be rested amid his poor run with the bat. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill makes his return to the playing XI in the do-or-die contest at the SCG. After leading India in the 1st Test in Perth, Jasprit Bumrah returns as the skipper.
Rohit Sharma dropped for IND vs AUS 5th Test
Rohit Sharma has failed to fire with the bat in the latter half of 2024. In the ongoing IND vs AUS series, he only managed to score 31 run in three Tests, putting enormous pressure on the rest of the batting line-up. Speaking at the toss, Bumrah revealed that Rohit has opted to “rest” for the Test in SCG while also lavishing praise on his ability to lead from the front.

Despite consistent failures, the Indian captain was a part of the playing XI and was in fact been eating up a spot that other players do deserve. In five innings, Sharma has only managed to score 31 runs in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with his miserable form continuing from the series against New Zealand at home. His attempt to bat in the middle-order flopped while his return as opener also provided similar results. India were left with no other option but to drop Rohit.
