Yashasvi Jaiswal kept his form going at the MCG, as he struck his second consecutive 50 in the Test, on Monday, to keep India in hunt for a draw. In a fighting display by the southpaw, he blocked everything that came his way to tire the Australian bowlers, and got to his 50 only in 127 deliveries, with the help of 7 fours.
Yashasvi Jaiswal 50 Saves India
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 50 in the second innings meant, he became India’s highest scorer in the current IND vs AUS Test series — scoring 321 runs in 4 matches, at an average of 53, including a massive 161 at Perth in the second innings. Meanwhile in the first innings, the 22-year-old had scored a classy 82, before being run out after a mix up with Virat Kohli.
Yashasvi in IND vs AUS Series
In his career so far, Yashasvi, in 18 Test matches has scored 1734 runs at an average of close to 56 including 10 fifties and four tons. He has a career best of 214. As far as his record with Australia is concerned, in the four matches, he has scored 321 runs, at an average of 53. And with one Test to go in Sydney — a batting wicket — he would only look to improve his record further.
Having said that, it wasn’t the smoothest of innings from Jaiswal. In the 127 deliveries he faced to reach to his 50, he had played and missed on 17 occasions, with luck on his side. Most of these came against Mitchell Starc, and in fact, survived a very close LBW shout against him. If not for the umpire’s call, he would have perished early. This is also his slowest 50 in Tests. At Perth, he had scored his slowest 50 before this — in 123 deliveries.
