Some of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) franchises have requested BCCI for the warm up games before the league starts on 19th September. 

According to InsideSport sources, the Indian board is yet to give firm commitment on the request made by the franchises. Though board has assured the franchises that they will seriously look into the request once the IPL 2020 schedule is firmed up.  

Not only the franchises, but the IPL’s broadcast partners Star India is also in favor of few warm up games before the start of the league.

 IPL 2020 : Warm up games likely before the league starts on 19th September

If BCCI give it’s green signal the warm-up games according to the source can be played between 11th Sep to 16th Sep. 

Currently teams are trying to get in shape by playing intra-squad games. Franchises feel since the players have not played competitive cricket since the COVID-19 outbreak, the warm up games will help them to get into competitive groove. 

According to info available 5-6 franchises have requested the BCCI for organising warm-up games. According to a franchise executive, the board has been cagey but they expect a response “in a day or two”. 

Even the broadcaster has shown interest in either streaming or televising the games subject to approval.

An IPL insider revealed that the BCCI may leave it to the teams to figure it out among themselves rather than taking on the additional responsibility at the eleventh hour.

Meanwhile the wait for IPL 2020 schedules are getting longer by the day. According to some of the franchises InsideSport spoke to informed that BCCI has assured them that schedules will be released in next 1-2 days.
