IND vs AUS: Nitish Kumar Reddy joins Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul with equal Test centuries in Australia

Nitish Kumar Reddy scored a sensational maiden Test century in Australia, joining an elite list of Indian cricketers and probably cementing his place in India’s squad.

Great innings, great moments, and it’s all India! Nitish Kumar Reddy scored his first hundred in Test cricket during the IND vs AUS 3rd Test in Melbourne. The batter from Visakhapatnam came in after Rishabh Pant’s dismissal and built his innings really well. He also formed a great 127-run partnership with Washington Sundar along the way to reach his milestone. Among all the players in the playing XI, he is the youngest and scored the most runs in this innings.

Drama in the last two overs to reach 100 from 97

After Washington Sundar was out for 50, Nitish Kumar Reddy had the chance to score his first Test century. Reddy was on 97 runs, and the weather looked like it might rain, he took a double on the last ball and gave the strike to Bumrah. Pat Cummins bowled and got Jasprit Bumrah to go out in the next over, caught by Usman Khawaja, which put more pressure on Reddy. Mohammed Siraj came in and managed to stay in despite Cummins’ last three tough deliveries.

In the next over, Scott Boland bowled with Reddy still at 99. The crowd watched anxiously. Reddy defended the balls well, even avoiding an LBW decision. Then, he hit a straight lofted drive for four runs, finally reaching his century.

Among the greats already

Nitish Kumar Reddy is already making his mark in the history books after scoring that century. He has become the 24th Indian cricketer to score a hundred in Australia, earning a legendary record. Even players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Ravi Shastri have only one century in Australia, and now he is part of that list with the same numbers.

Debut series goes well

Nitish Kumar Reddy made his debut for India against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. In his first match against Australia, he scored 41 and an unbeaten 38, continuously trying to put on a show with the bat. Now, he has done something that even big players struggle to do—playing for the first time in Australia and scoring a hundred. With this century, he may have cemented his place in India’s Test squad for a longer period.

Early career and achievements

The 21-year-old initially caught the spotlight in the 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy when he scored a triple century for Andhra Pradesh. In his first-class cricket career, he has played 26 matches, accumulating 958 runs, including one century and two half-centuries. Today, he scored his second century in the First Class Cricket.
