Smith seems to have finally found his touch as he broke free from shackles of poor form in the 4th Test. On Day 1, he put up a strong partnership with Marnus Labuschagne, spending over two sessions in the middle. He raced to his half-century and then stayed unbeaten at the end of the day’s play.

Bumrah was once again the leading wicket-taker for the hosts, bagging three wickets on Day 1. He first managed to get rid of a well-set Usman Khawaja via a soft dismissal. He then ended Travis Head’s short-lived stint in a stunning fashion with a pearler of a delivery.
