CSK’s loss is DC’s gain! Sameer Rizvi scores two double centuries in just 5 days for UP

Sameer Rizvi was bought for INR 95 lakh by DC at the IPL 2025 auction after being released by CSK.

Wow! Take a bow, Sameer Rizvi! The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been in red-hot form, showing what the joint-most successful IPL franchise might have lost. Sameer Rizvi has drawn attention with an amazing performance in the Under-23 One Day State A competition despite being left out of Uttar Pradesh’s Vijay Hazare Trophy team. In just a matter of five days, Rizvi has clubbed not one but two double centuries. It was only a few days ago when Rizvi sizzled an eye-popping 201 from only 97 deliveries.

CSK discard Sameer Rizvi sizzles another 200*

His most recent victory came on Wednesday against Vidarbha, when he led a heroic 407-run chase after smashing an undefeated 202 off 105 balls. With 10 fours and an incredible 18 sixes in his blitzkrieg, Rizvi and wicketkeeper Siddiqui combined for a record-breaking 296 runs, with Siddiqui scoring 91 off 68 balls. Four days prior, Rizvi hammered another double century against Tripura U-23, scoring 201* off just 97 balls. This knock, featuring 20 sixes and 13 fours, was the fastest double century in the tournament’s history. Adding to his phenomenal streak, Rizvi had already scored successive centuries against Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh earlier in the week. With an aggregate of 728 runs in six innings, including 52 fours and 64 sixes, the 21-year-old has emerged as an unprecedented force.

IPL 2025: CSK lost a gem, DC now Cock-a-hoop

Rizvi’s current form contrasts sharply with his underwhelming IPL 2024 season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where he managed just 51 runs in eight innings. He was signed for a whopping Rs 8.4 crore then. After being released by CSK, Rizvi was picked up by the Delhi Capitals for his base price of INR 30 lakh in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. With Rishabh Pant now gone, Rizvi’s explosive batting could fill the void in DC’s middle order. He and Ashutosh Sharma are expected to be the ultimate finishers for DC.

Despite a quiet Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) season and omission from the Vijay Hazare squad, Rizvi’s remarkable U-23 performances reaffirm his potential. For DC, his resurgence is a promising sign, while CSK may rue letting go of a star in the making.
