“We’ve got Rishabh Pant,” visiting fans chanted the last time India travelled to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2020/21. It was a special series for Pant, who did something magical and played a massive part in India’s back-to-back triumph Down Under. But now, he hasn’t been able to march the team. In the ongoing BGT, he has scored just 96 runs across 5 innings, which has eventually led him out of the ICC Top 10 Test batting rankings.
BGT: India need Rishabh Pant ASAP
Rishabh Pant was ranked at number six in the Test ranking prior to the start of the BGT series. But now, he is out of the top 10 altogether. This attributes to his dwindling batting form. Despite all his antics and unconventional pyrotechniques at the crease, Pant has largely failed to muster huge runs. Although there hasn’t been any compromise on his style of batting, Pat Cummins and company have found it easy to wrap Pant’s innings up quickly. Although he has breached the 20-run mark three times in 5 innings, Pant just hasn’t gotten going for a longer period of time.
For India, Yashasvi Jaiswal remains the only batter in the latest ICC Test batting rankings. However, after a scnitilating century in Perth, even Jaiswal has found it tough. Mitchell Starc has had his number on multiple occasions, with Jaiswal scoring 45, 0, 24, 4 & 4 in his last five knocks.
