Travis Head not a “certain starter” for IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test, doubts loom over batter’s fitness

Australia's best batter in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Travis Head, may not be a part of IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test

In what could be a huge relief for India, Travis Head may not be a part of Australia playing XI for IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test. The explosive batter, who has been Australia’s top run-scorer in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, picked up a quad strain during the 3rd Test at the Gabba. It looks like he is yet to completely recover and most likely will not be a part of the Melbourne Test.

No Travis Head for IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test?

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald confirmed on Tuesday that Travis had picked up an injury. While he was confident that Head would pass the fitness tests to make it to the XI for IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test, he admitted that the batter still had some hoops to jump through. Earlier, the hosts had named two vice-captains for the remaining two Tests, with Steve Smith being made Cummins’ deputy along with Head. It was understood that the batter’s participation in the 4th Test could be doubtful and hence the selectors decided to name Smith as vice-captain.
