It doesn’t make sense that Sanju Samson isn’t playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2024-25. In the form of his life and amid the purplest of patches, why would the wicketkeeper batter decide to not feature for Kerala? It wasn’t even like Samson didn’t play in domestic cricket until literally two weeks ago.
Samson vs KCA?
Yet when the time came, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) didn’t name him in their squad. The board reasoned that Samson failed to attend the pre-season camp for VHT, and that’s why he wasn’t considered for selection. Some speculated that all may not be right between the KCA and Samson. But that doesn’t make sense.
Samson missing Champions Trophy opportunity
Had that been the case, why would Samson play for his state in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy? Also one mustn’t forget that Samson can still contend for a spot in the India cricket team’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and by not participating in the VHT, he’ll only shoot himself in the foot.

Injury the reason why Sanju Samson is missing Vijay Hazare Trophy?
So, why isn’t Sanju Samson playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy? The answer could be injury. A few days ago, a video surfaced in which Samson was seen hobbling, and his left leg was taped up. This seems to be the most logical answer as to why Samson is missing out on the domestic 50-over competition. The only thing is, why hasn’t either Samson or KCA issued a statement? Had that been done, all of these speculations would have been put to rest immediately.
In a recent video, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra also reiterated the same, i.e., that Samson might indeed be injured. “Let’s talk about Sanju Samson because his name is not there in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at all. You might be thinking what happened—he didn’t go to Wayanad, didn’t attend the camp, so Kerala said they won’t select him. Some fan page has put that Sanju had informed us as well that he wouldn’t be able to come as he had an injury in his leg,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
